Planning for Honda City 2009

I am really considering buying a 2009 Honda City. Of course, I don’t have the money yet, but I do plan to work on saving up for at least a 20% downpayment and then get the necessary papers ready for a car loan to be approved. I may have to put off buying a Sony Vaio or a Mac first so I can save faster. I fell in love with the Honda City after driving it and how I love its aesthetics. I hope that we do get one soon.

Press Release: Honda Bags Awards in Sub-compact and Executive Sedan Class

Honda achieved distinguished recognition for its subcompact and executive sedan models during the 5th Annual C! Awards held recently at One Esplanade in Pasay City.

Besting three other nominees, the 1.5 Honda Jazz was named the class winner in the subcompact sedan category. C! Magazine’s August issue remarked that, “Honda certainly took the Jazz to a whole new level especially with the 1.5 liter i-VTEC engine, the clever use of space, nifty features and sporty-inclined handling.”

In bringing sheer driving enjoyment to greater heights, the 1.5 Jazz comes with a race-inspired paddle shift that is also available in other bigger models like the Civic and the Accord. The paddle shift option enables manual shifting of gears without the clutch. The Honda Jazz also offers more than enough space to match active lifestyles. Offering versatility in seat configurations, the ULTRA seats can accommodate almost anything – be it long, tall or any utility items. (more…)

My Participation in the Honda Challenge Cup 2009: Drive Every Drop

My recent participation in the 2009 Honda Challenge Cup whose theme is Drive Every Drop has made me see how important regular car maintenance is and driving the right kind of vehicle is when it comes to fuel efficiency.

As Capresso is to the coffee industry, the new Honda cars boast of reaching EURO-4 level in the European Emission Standards while the Philippine standard is EURO-2. Having the right kind of vehicle, which is just one of the factors affecting fuel efficiency is important. The other two factors are the fuel and the driver. But even if you have a good driver and the right kind of fuel, not having the right kind of vehicle, like an unmaintained one can greatly affect the fuel efficiency.

I Had the Automatic Idler Repaired

Last week, I had my car repaired. On the way back to the office from Makati, my car’s engine would stop running when I didn’t step on the accelerator. At first, my theory was it’s because of a problem with the fuel system again, as I have encountered that problem before. But I noticed that when I stepped on the accelerator while driving the acceleration was also continuous. (more…)

New Tools for Cars

Using new tools and ideas can be very helpful and can make things easier for doing car repairs. Using an electrically powered bolt remover, for example, cuts the time spent in removing a wheels bolts. It’s like an fitness buff using a Kettlebell at home instead of going to the gym and paying for fees for its use. Nowadays, we must be wise and must maximize our resources in every opportunity, even in car repair.

On Simulated or the Actual Road Test

Which would you prefer? Running on treadmills or getting your feet on that hard road and jogging on the sidewalks? Both are actually helpful but the final test for a runner is being on the road.

For a car, it must first pass basic operations which can also be tested in the shop, much like a treadmill. But the best test for any vehicle is the actual road and load test. And that is what any car that is being maintained must pass to say that the vehicle is really road worthy or dependable.

Do Your Prefer Long Drives or Not?

My family and I just recently had our vacation at Boracay Island and enjoyed the sun, the salty water and the fine-grained sand. As compared to other vacation options like mountaineering, or hiking I prefer the beach especially against rv camping or taking long drives. The reason is I do not want being to dependent on a vehicle during a vacation unless it is know to be very reliable. IF it is well-maintained, then I would consider it. I enjoy taking long drives with cars that are highly dependable. I am glad that our car now is back in its shape and a long drive may be the next vacation option.

Maintaining Your Car’s Value

Your car may not have the monetary value of diamond engagement rings but it still is valuable. And by maintaining your car regularly, even with the natural devaluation, it can eventually increase in value. Just take a look at vintage cars. They become valuable when the original parts are retained (stock parts) and are maintained well. Some people even pay so much to have their old cars restored. So do not give u on your old car. Years from now, it may just suddenly become so valuable in the market.

Cleaning and Inspection of Disc Brake Caliper

This entry is about cleaning and inspection of disc brake caliper. Procedures are all principle based so be guided accordingly.

How to clean and inspect a disc brake caliper

Clean all metal parts with isopropyl alcohol. Then clean out and dry the grooves and passageways with compressed air. Make sure the caliper bore and all component parts are thoroughly clean. Check the cylinder bore and piston for damage or excessive wear. Replace the piston if it is pitted or scored or if the chrome plating is worn off.
